The State of Specialty Coffee Pricing

We pulled every product and price from 13 specialty roasters — 5,774 live prices — to answer a simple question: what does a bag of good coffee actually cost right now?

The number: a 12oz bag clusters at $26

Across 2,932 single-origin and blend bags, the median price is $26.00. But the median hides the real story — the spread. Half of all specialty bags sell between $18 and $32, and the market runs from a $10 floor to a $40 ceiling.

Median (p50)

Upper quarter (p75)

Top 10% (p90)

If you sell coffee: this is your pricing map. Under $18 you're the value pick; above $32 you're premium and need the story to justify it. Right at $26, you're invisible — priced exactly like everyone else.

Who's value, who's premium

Median 12oz bag price, by roaster — the same beans category, very different positioning:

RoasterProductsMedian bag
Coffee King250$14.00
Rowdy Beans62$17.25
Independence Coffee107$18.99
Eastern Coffee49$19.82
Pivot Coffee9$19.95
Bold Bean68$20.00
Ruby Coffee213$24.25
Counter Culture169$25.00
Onyx Coffee Lab248$26.00
Verve Coffee167$26.50
Kaleidoscope20$27.62
Coffee Bros22$28.00
Romo Coffee72$32.00

The gap between the value leader ($14) and the premium end ($32) is 2.3× — for a product category that is, at the bean level, remarkably comparable. Positioning, not cost, sets the price.

Only 5.8% is on sale — discounting is rare

Of 5,774 live variants, just 337 (5.8%) were discounted below their compare-at price. Specialty coffee holds its line; the category competes on story and freshness, not markdowns. When a competitor does discount, it stands out — and it's worth knowing the day it happens.

Methodology. Every price here was pulled live from each roaster's public product catalog (the same data their storefront serves) in July 2026 — no estimates, no surveys. "Single-bag" = variants priced $10–$40, the standard 10–12oz retail range. Medians are used throughout to avoid distortion from bundles and wholesale SKUs. The whole dataset was collected in under a minute with a small script.
